Desde hace siglos, el hombre se ha sentido atraído por las estrellas. Las ha observado, ha escrito leyendas sobre su origen y se ha asombrado con ellas. Existen representaciones de estrellas realizadas por el hombre hace más de 10.000 años, cuando aún vivía en cuevas. Las antiguas civilizaciones, en todos los rincones de la Tierra, estudiaron el universo y dedicaron gran cantidad de tiempo a este tema, dejándonos como resultado dibujos, esculturas y textos con sus ideas, teorías y mitos.
Además de las estrellas, en un momento determinado de la historia, los antiguos astrónomos fueron conscientes de la existencia de otros planetas. Sin embargo, la tecnología solo permitía observar esas esferas lejanas, sin poder visitarlas. Hubo que esperar muchos siglos para que el hombre fuera capaz de salir de la atmósfera terrestre, orbitar la Tierra y pisar la Luna.
La llegada del hombre a nuestro satélite, fue solo el comienzo y los científicos de hoy sueñan con los siguientes pasos que nos lleven a cumplir un gran sueño: vivir en otros planetas. Tendremos que esperar varias generaciones para ver ciudades fuera de la Tierra. Sin embargo, parece un hecho cierto que ese día llegará. Es más que probable que ese día comience con una colonia en la Luna o en Marte. ¿Qué ocurrirá después? Eso solo el tiempo lo dirá.
Si pudiéramos ver el futuro, seguramente veríamos al hombre conquistando las estrellas. Los avances tecnológicos nos llevan en esa dirección y, sin duda, algún día lo conseguiremos. Mientras eso ocurre, debemos conformarnos con mirar por un telescopio, cerrar los ojos e imaginarnos cómo sería vivir en un planeta con dos soles o siete lunas.
Dreams and stars
For centuries, humans have been drawn to the stars. They have observed them, written legends about their origins, and marveled at them. Representations of stars made by humans over 10,000 years ago, when they still lived in caves, have been found. Ancient civilizations all around the world studied the universe and devoted a great deal of time to this subject, leaving us with drawings, sculptures, and texts containing their ideas, theories, and myths.
In addition to stars, at a certain point in history, ancient astronomers became aware of the existence of other planets. However, the technology only allowed for the observation of these distant spheres, without the possibility of visiting them. It took many centuries for humans to be able to leave Earth’s atmosphere, orbit the Earth, and walk on the Moon.
The arrival of humans on our satellite was only the beginning, and today’s scientists dream of the next steps that will fulfill a great dream: living on other planets. We will have to wait for several generations to see cities beyond Earth. However, it seems almost certain that that day will come. It is more than likely that this day will begin with a colony on the Moon or Mars. What will happen next? Only time will tell.
If we could see the future, we would probably witness humanity conquering the stars. Technological advancements are leading us in that direction, and undoubtedly, one day we will achieve it. While that happens, we must be content with looking through a telescope, closing our eyes, and imagining what it would be like to live on a planet with two suns or seven moons.
