«¡Por fin es Navidad!», gritó mi hermana pequeña. Con esa sinfonía nos despertamos aquel 25 de Diciembre toda la familia. Justo el día anterior habíamos puesto el árbol de Navidad colocando un ángel en su cúspide y decorándolo con bolas de Navidad.
Mis padres habían colgado los calcetines en la chimenea que ahora estaban llenos de golosinas. Sobre ella estaban las tarjetas de Navidad que mi familia nos había enviado para desearnos unas felices Fiestas. Por supuesto en nuestra decoración no faltaba tampoco la típica corona navideña para embellecer la estampa idílica de nuestra casa y un gigante cascanueces estaba custodiando nuestro árbol de Navidad.
Al entrar al salón descubrí que Papá Noel había llegado aquella noche cargado de regalos navideños. Pero eso no fue todo. El gato estaba jugueteando con las luces y se había enroscado el cable al cuerpo. El árbol se estaba cayendo en dirección al fuego de la chimenea y corrí para evitarlo. «Creo que la próxima vez podemos ahorrarnos la iluminación para evitar riesgos», dijo entonces mi madre.
Christmas morning
“Finally, it’s Christmas!” shouted my little sister. With that symphony, our entire family woke up on that December 25th. Just the day before, we had set up the Christmas tree, placing an angel on its top and decorating it with Christmas ornaments.
My parents had hung stockings by the fireplace, which were now filled with sweets. On top of the fireplace, there were Christmas cards that our family had sent us to wish us Happy Holidays. Of course, our decorations also included the typical Christmas wreath to enhance the idyllic scene of our house, and a giant nutcracker was guarding our Christmas tree.
As I entered the living room, I discovered that Santa Claus had arrived the previous night, loaded with Christmas gifts. But that wasn’t all. The cat was playing with the lights and had wrapped the cord around its body. The tree was toppling over toward the fireplace, and I rushed to prevent it. “I think next time we can skip the lights to avoid any risks,” my mother remarked.
